Tasty Thursdays & Giveaway: Jalapeno Jack Guac Burgers (Featuring Jennie-O & Wholly Guacamole) — Ends 3/21

guac9I usually don’t eat burgers at home. If we’re having a BBQ, I’m having a hot dog. Or chicken. But I stay away from burgers, for the most part. Not always, but mostly. So believe me when I say I had never tried a turkey burger.

But when I got the chance to try out the new Jennie-O jalapeno jack turkey burgers, topped with Wholly Guacamole, I decided now was the chance to try them.

guac1

Pete and I went to Walmart to pick up the ingredients we needed. There were a bunch of Jennie-O turkey burgers to choose from, but we were asked to try the jalapeno jack ones. Good for Pete because he loves anything with jalapeno and a bit of spice. A six pack of burgers is $6.98, in case you’re curious.

guac2

We picked up the Wholly Guacamole at Walmart too. Of course, Pete wanted the spicy guac, which we picked up in 100 calorie packs, but I picked the traditional guac. I was worried about too much heat. Truth be told, you can get either a hot jalapeno or a cool one. It’s pretty random. It seems these burgers got cool ones because there actually wasn’t jalapeno heat in them.

guac3

What You’ll Need:

Pack of Jennie-O turkey burgers

Pack of buns (we picked ciabatta)

Tomatoes

Onion (not pictured, because I decided to use it later)

Wholly Guac

What You’ll Do:

guac4

Cook the burger. Since it’s a little cold still, we cooked it on the stove. You can do it on the grill if you’d prefer.

guac5

Make sure you cook it to 165 degrees. You can check it with a meat thermometer. My advice here is to let the burgers defrost before you cook them. Cooking a frozen burger up to temperature takes forever, and you end up with a dry burger that doesn’t ooze the jalapeno jack cheese.

guac6

Top the burger with Wholly Guac. This is great because it’s so creamy, you don’t need an extra condiments. Ketchup has more sugar, per ounce, than soda, and you really don’t want to put that in your body if you don’t have to. Guac is great because avocados have “good fats.” Plus, the label on Wholly Guac is so easy to read. It’s all natural and made from ingredients that you can pronounce.

guac7

Add tomato slices.

guac8

Add onions.

Close the bun and enjoy.

We actually did really enjoy these, especially the ones that we let thaw to room temperature before cooking. Yes, the non-burger eater was converted. I actually enjoyed these so much that next time we have a cookout, I’m bringing a pack … and maybe I’ll share.

I made homemade fries to go with these, and, when I priced it out, the entire meal cost about $4 a serving. It’s a lot less than what you would pay for a burger and fries at a fast food place, and it’s so much better for you. Plus, there’s something rewarding about cooking at home.

Do you feel the same way?

If you do, you’re gonna wanna enter our latest giveaway. One lucky winner will win a Jennie-O and Wholly Guacamole prize pack. You’ll win coupons for Wholly Guac and Jennie-O, plus a few other Wholly Guac branded items (like a chip clip, t-shirt, mouse pad, and more) and a meat thermometer (so you can make sure your burgers are cooked).
